FIVB and Emakina get Gold at Sitecore Experience Awards and Silver at IAB Mixx Awards!Anthony Garcia

One of the top teams honoured at MIXX Awards ceremony in Brussels in October 2014, was the FIVB and its digital agency Emakina. Their joint project, the Volleyball World Championship websites for men and for women scooped the 2014 Silver MIXX Award in the category ‘Best Optimised Website of the Year’.
The International Federation for Volleyball and Beach Volleyball FIVB partnered with Emakina and its Belgian sister agency The Reference for this challenging online project, as part of their digital partnership. The professional jury praised the websites’ impressive speed, precision and versatility, perfectly mirroring the top level of the volleyball action they covered.
The FIVB last year had given Emakina a tough challenge: create a better, more intense and immersive live experience for volleyball fans across the globe during the 2014 Volleyball World Championships in Italy and Poland.
Emakina imagined and created a digital ecosystem for the FIVB, with a made-to-measure concept and design for two websites.
A first covered the women’s championships in Italy, a second the men’s event in Poland. Using the same architecture, the websites were a true live hub for the happenings, sharing exciting and visually striking pages with results, photos, comments and live statistics. Integration of news, social media and an innovative fan zone, with a social wall and panoramic images increased the immersive effect of the website.
In addition to these two sites, Emakina launched an iOS application. Furthermore, the agency is currently redesigning the organisations’ overarching site FIVB.org. This work is the result of an intense collaboration between experts from Emakina and The Reference.

The websites of the Volleyball World Championship in Poland and Italy reach 9 million of sessions with 4 million of users and 29 million of page views.
60 000 iOS App were downloaded and the websites achieved the biggest peak 17 000 active users.
This project receives positive feedback globally; other steps will follow to strengthen the audience and player’s online experience, further creating the digital ecosystem of the FIVB. To be continued…
